Historic

It was about 200 years ago when the french Marshal Auguste Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont came to Slunj. His plan was to grow and collect agricultural products for the needs of Napoleon's army on the European fronts, prior to their attack on Russia. Marshal Marmont was so successful in his intentions that he managed to build this magazine as a food storage, many roads leading to Slunj and most importantly - famous mills across the village of Rastoke almost overnight.

AMBAR

In the old days, ambar was a barn-like granary used as a storage for grain, wheat and sometimes even weapons. This particular storage called Napoleon’s Magazine, which is located right above you, was placed there because of its proximity to Rastoke mills, where wheat was produced and safely stored.

Our story starts in February of 2019. The pictures above show the heavy and hard work put into developing this restaurant. The idea was to create a place where people from all over the world can come and enjoy good Croatian food, relaxing environment and history lodged into the ground. We care about your experience and want you to fully feel Croatian culture and everything it has to offer.

Croatia’s

FAVORITE chef

The story of Mate Jankovic, one of Croatia's most recognized chefs, began a long time ago. Throughout his reign, Jankovic showed his creativity and capability to his Croatian audience, which is the reason why we chose him to design our menu because we wanted the best for our guests. Recently, Jankovic published a cookbook named "Croatia: The Cookbook", which brought together some of the best Croatian chefs for the first time to present 155 different recipes in one amazing book.
